Maurizio Laureri began his adventure of cooking classic Roman cuisine as a child helping his mother, Clara, in the family kitchen over fifty years ago. He would make miniature copies of the same family recipes that his mother served to her large family every afternoon and evening.

“My mother used recipes that were developed over many decades in our family,” states Maurizio. “Our meals were always a surprise as she added her skills, adapting with fresh ingredients or adding her own ideas for spices and sauces.”

After serving as his mother’s apprentice in the kitchen, the young Maurizio went to London where he brought his experience to La Meridiana restaurant and then made his home in New York City where he worked in Orsini, La Scala and Cent’anni. He also worked as a consultant for Italian restaurants who wanted to expand and upgrade their menus. It was during this period that he met Tom McNamara who operated a restaurant in the SOHO district, Central Falls. Their early friendship would later result in Maurizio moving his restaurant operations to Phuket, where he opened his Da Maurizio Bar Ristorante as part of Tom’s Baan Rim Pa group of restaurants.

Such passion about food and wine carried over to his famous “loft” parties in Manhattan when he would cook six course dinners for friends. During this time, he was catering on movie sets where he was known as the “good mood chef” for his ability to alter the mood of the cast by creating beautiful Italian lunches, sometimes for a hundred people or more.

Damaurizio's History

“Over the past 20 years , whether I’ve owned or managed restaurants or worked in other fields, I have always traveled a great deal and eaten in the best restaurants,” Maurizio remembers. “And often, I would decide upon a holiday destination based on the restaurants and cuisine available.”

Damaurizio's History

When he decided to combine his lifetime of adventure with Italian foods in Maurizio’s Family Recipes he invited his mother to Phuket to share her knowledge of the regional cuisine responsible for making Da Maurizio Bar Ristorante Phuket’s most distinctive and authentic center of fine Italian food and wine.

“My menu at Da Maurizio Bar Ristorante has classic Italian cuisine as well as my family’s recipes and my own personal innovations,” he explains. “What I have created is a restaurant where I would want to come and enjoy not only the best Italian cuisine but fine wine, good music and the beauty of Patong Bay. And I want to share this with my many friends and guests.”
